Luminesce Brightening Defence 30 is an extraordinarily broad-spectrum sun protection, specifically formulated to protect skin with hyperpigmentation.
It contains pigment-inhibiting peptides and a special type of vitamin C called MAP that protects against free radicals.
It is quickly absorbed and has a matte effect on the skin that will not leave a grey tinge. Luminesce Brightening Defense is non-oily, making it ideal for those who dislike a “sunscreen feel”.

A decade after first launching Luminesce, there are some exciting new discoveries around hyperpigmentation and how it’s formed in the skin. Lamelle has updated the two moisturisers in this range to now inhibit multiple pathways of pigment formation and to intervene in pigment formation in melasma at the DNA level.
Pigmentation
Pigmentation has two purposes: It gives your skin colour and it protects your skin from the sun.
Hyperpigmentation is areas where there is an overproduction of pigment, leaving the skin to appear dark, mottled and uneven in colour. There are 3 main causes of hyperpigmentation:
- Sun-induced – melanin is the pigment that gives skin colour. It’s also the body’ natural “internal sunscreen”, so the more you are exposed to UV or heat, the more pigmentation is made, typically known as sun or age spots.
- Hormonal – caused internally by fluctuations in hormones usually during pregnancy known as melasma or chloasma or found in women taking contraceptives.
- Post-Inflammatory – often referred to PIH and is common after an inflamed wound heals e.g. acne scarring
